SUPPORTING COMMUNITY TREE NURSERIES
Dedan Kimathi Foundation Environment Conservation team spent their day in Mukogodo Forest (Ilmamusi CFA) in Laikipia North Sub-county.
The foundation looks forward to partnering with Illegwesi Community to re-establish a tree nursery in the middle of the forest. The tree seedlings to be raised will be used in the restoration of the forest to sustain the wild animals in addition to being a mitigation solution to climate change’s negative effects.
The nursery site enjoys the benefit of being less than 10 meters close making watering the seedlings quite manageable without incurring high labor costs.
In addition to this site, the foundation plans to expand partnerships to Seiku primary to boost their nursery to get back to production. The school is currently lacking water forcing the people in charge to use bikes to fetch water from far-off boreholes.
