DAY 2.
A tree nursery increases the survival chances of seedlings because they can be taken care of in the nursery-young trees are nurtured until mature enough to be moved to the field. A nursery is also important for convenience reasons, the seedlings can be planted at the desired time.
Tree nursery operations involve various activities such as seed sourcing, Seedbed preparation, Sowing seeds, Potting, Pricking Out, Shading, Watering, Weeding, root pruning, application of additional fertilizers or manure
Dedan Kimathi Foundation Environment Conservation team 1 will be camping in Nyeri for 3 weeks and enters Day 2 at Muringato Forest Station Central Highlands Nursery.
The team is simultaneously carrying out potting, spot weeding, pricking in, and watering the seedlings after weeding.
This is in support of KFS seedlings production in readiness for the next planting season.
