Geta Forest National Tree Growing Campaign Event

As a tool towards actualization of the 30% national tree cover by 2032, the government has kept the National Tree Growing Restoration Campaign events alive since its launch by the president in December 2022.

On Friday 30th August 2024, Dedan Kimathi Foundation Environment Conservation team joined the state department of economic planning in a 10,000 tree growing activity at Wanjohi Forest Block in Geta Forest in Kipipiri Sub County; Nyandarua County. National treasury CS Hon. CPA John Mbadi was represented by Mr. James Muhati, CBS. PS Economic Planning

In his brief speech, he emphasized on the call for every member of public to grow 30 trees every year until 2032 to make the 15 billion tree growing campaign a reality. He persuaded the participants of the event to be committed to tree growing rather than just planting. He presided over the distribution of grafted avocado tree seedlings to the participants to grow in their homes.

Leading the team, the Foundation CEO Ms. Evelyn Kimathi lauded the president for his undying determination to combat climate change through sustainable tree growing. ”Tree growing is our small way of combating climate change threat. Trees reduce carbon emissions in the air as they absorb and store it in their tissues. Planting more trees assures us of a more sustainable future. ” she stated as she led a team of participants in the tree planting.

The event was well attended by Nyandarua County Environment department, Kenya Forest Services, Kenya Wildlife Service, National Government Administration Officers, the area residents, pupils from Gatondo comprehensive school and secondary among others.
