F. M. Dedan Kimathi104th Posthumous Birthday Nation Greening

History recognizes F. M. Dedan Kimathi’s informed decision making and war strategies as a great contribution in the fight against the inhumane colonial rule. As the leader of the Mau Mau in the 1950s, his efforts in planning and executing forest fights against the highly armed British soldiers cannot be underplayed. History will forever celebrate him as a gallant soldier for paying the ultimate price for the liberation of his nation.

Dedan Kimathi Foundation holds the hero in great regard and commits to continue building on his legacy of patriotism, selflessness, empowerment and conservation of nature.

In his honor, the Foundation has embarked on high voltage tree seedlings production and tree planting plans with Kenya Forest Service ahead of his 104th Posthumous birthday marked every 31st October.

Today, a section of DKF Environment Conservation team visited Kabage Forest Station in Nyeri upon request to plan on joint collaboration towards increased tree seedlings production. The Foundation has committed to avail the environment team to help with soil collection, potting, weeding, clearing a new site and general tree nursery hygiene as build up activities to the birthday celebration.

In regard to the presidential 15 billion tree growing plan, the Foundation has identified two portions to grow trees in collaboration with other environmental stakeholders. The Foundation targets to grow a total of 64,000 trees in the forest over the short rains season starting off in October. The growing will be done in a rehabilitation area to increase species biodiversity and forest density and a plantation zone to replace harvested exotic trees.

In this spirit, Dedan Kimathi Foundation urges all patriotic Kenyans to join in the fierce fight against climate change by growing 104 trees individually or as groups in honor of the selfless national liberator.
