Dedan Kimathi Children’s Home Visit

A Day of Sharing with the Needy Children

Established in the year 2019, Dedan Kimathi Children’s Home and Rescue Centre has been a beacon of hope for more than 70 needy children. The home; situated in Sasumua Dam Village in South Kinangop- Nyandarua is currently sheltering 35 children from challenging backgrounds. Believing in the power of their dreams, Dedan Kimathi Foundation strives to afford them education as an equalizer. The home gates remain open to the public to visit, mentor and support the children with basic needs.

In this light, Saturday 8th February 2025 went to record as a day of showing love and sharing with the children at the home. Youths from different regions and professions made their way to the home to encourage, mentor and motivate the children to see beyond the mountains of challenges and chase their dreams to fulfillment.

The bee-busy day saw the team donate foodstuffs and clothes to the children, cook and share a tasty meal with them amidst dances, games and bonding. Spreading smiles was the main goal of the day to show the kids that the world recognizes them and is happy to help them meet their needs.

The visit, organized by Dedan Kimathi Foundation staff attracted support from Nairobi-based Toto Kalezi Foundation, Boychild Love Foundation from Nakuru among a few other charitable individuals.

Stamping the importance of the day, Toto Kalezi Foundation Director, Rev. Miriam Wairimu spoke a blessing upon the children and motivated the participants not to be weary of helping the less fortunate. She further challenged them to be frequent visitors of the home to help the children in times of dire need.

Her sentiments were supported by the home manager who shared the difficulties the children experience in the home ranging from high school fees balances due to financial constraints, food shortages, worn out school uniforms and inability to access affordable healthcare when sick. He thanked the visitors for going out of their way to give the children a reason to smile.

To crown the day, the participants shared a cake to celebrate the birthday of Miss Cynthia Githinji, a staff of Dedan Kimathi Foundation whose love for the children equals that of her own. She chose to spend her day with the children to share joy, laughter and love with the needy children.

Shortly after, 30 assorted trees were planted at the Foundation’s tree nursery to mark the day. During the activity, the foundation environmental team leader urged the participants to adopt the ‘Trees for Birthdays’ tree growing strategy to increase tree cover and mitigate climate change negative effects.
