Military makes Nyandarua County Green

The military’s key responsibility is to protect our territorial boundaries and plays key roles in making our country safe from potential invaders. For instance, when terror attacks occur the military through their state-of-the-art expertise breaks such terror networks. It was a big honor for Dedan Kimathi Foundation to host the military during a mega tree planting exercise. The presence of the military in the exercise was to show the human-kind that trees protect us too, like the military does, trees protect us from climatical and environmental disasters.

On 17th November 2021, soldiers from Kahawa Barracks in conjuction with Dedan Kimathi Foundation and other key stakeholders participated in mega tree planting exercise where over 100,000 tree seedlings were planted boosting conservational preservation in bid to make North Kinangop sub county in Nyandarua colorful. Nine days later in Mirangine ward still in Nyandarua County KDF soldiers from Lanet Barracts joined hands with Dedan Kimathi Foundation and other well-wishers including students took part in planting 40,000 tree seedlings and too made the area answer the call of fight against global warming.

DKF made a major milestone in bid to reach a target of planting 3,030,000 million trees as we still continue to commemorate our Hero Dedan Kimathi’s birthday. So far, DKF in conjunction with other key stakeholders have been able to plant over 210,00 tree seedlings as we aim to hit 3million target. Tree planting exercise is not only embraced in our country Kenya but it’s an international beacon in making environment quite conducive for all human-kind.

These two great events should not be seen as just an ordinary tree planting exercise, but rather as an annual event and a way of reminding us to be more conscious of the need to protect our environment.
Dedan Kimathi Foundation under the patronage of Evelyn Kimathi wishes to that KDF (Kahawa & Lanet Baracks) County Government of Nyandarua, Equity Bank, Kenya Forest Service (KFS), amongst many other partners who made the exercise successful.
