‘ADOPTING A TREE’ Schools Greening Marathon 2024
ED1: GITWE PRIMARY SCHOOL ENVIROMENTAL MENTORSHIP AND TREE GROWING
2024 stands out as a year blessed with heavy downpour as compared to other January months that tend to be dry. As a people committed to make significant advancement in the fight against climate change, Dedan Kimathi Foundation held its first tree growing activity at Gitwe Primary School in Kipipiri Sub County ;Nyandarua county today, Friday 19th January 2024.
To increase sustainability, the Foundation has put more effort in the strategy dubbed ‘Adopting a Tree’ School Greening Marathon 2024. In this series, the trees planted in schools will be immediately adopted by learners for proper aftercare.
The environment conservation team worked together with Wisdom mentors society, Mr. Climate; Nyandarua, Miss Tourism; Nyandarua, Office of the Youth, Sports and the Arts to educate Gitwe Primary and Secondary students on the need to conserve the environment. Emphasis was made on sustainable tree growing and proper waste disposal.
Dedan Kimathi Foundation purposes to make the most out of the January- February conservation period through tree growing and clean ups in readiness for F. M. Dedan Kimathi 67th Anniversary taking place on 17th and 18th February 2024.
